Atopy is a distinct Entity, separate from contact dermatitis and eczema (epidermal skin lesions), and separate from the urticaria-hay fever-asthma group that produces wheal reactions with intracutaneous testing. In children contact dermatitis can occur in such other groups, which accounts for the occasional help from intracutaneous testing if the allergen is the same in each instance.
