Sheard &
Drugge Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery
This practice
is the direct descendant of the first dermatology practice
in Stamford, CT. In the early 1900s, Dr. George Miller McKee
moved from New York City to start a private practice in a
white victorian house on Glenbrook Road . Dr. McKee founded
the Society for Investigative Dermatology in 1937 and was
highly respected for his research and intellect. (In fact,
Dr. McKee was known as the father of the chemical peel,
having pioneered the research in 1908). Dr. Merlin Stone
joined the practice and was known for his pharmaceutical
prowess, especially when he and Dr. McKee developed a
laboratory in the basement of the office for compounding of
new therapies recorded in their formulary. In 1950, Dr.
Charles Sheard left his teaching and clinical position at
Columbia Physicians and Surgeons in Manhattan to join the
practice on Glenbrook Road. He is a Professor Emeritus at
New York-Cornell Medical Center. When he became the sole
owner of the practice, he moved it to downtown Stamford on
Bedford Street. In 1993, Dr. Rhett Drugge and Dr. Sheard
teamed up and moved to their current office site of 50
Glenbrook Road, a mere two blocks from the original practice
location.
