When the patient was fourteen years old, she got her ears pierced. Two years later, keloids developed on both of her ears, the larger being on the right ear. Her first operation was at the age of sixteen, when the keloid from the right ear was removed. It took it a year and a half to grow back, and grew back larger than before. At that time, the pateint was serving in the army, where she went to a plastic surgeon who decided to remove it. | |
Two years after her initial operation, the keloid was
removed again. It took twelve months to grow back, and had
again significantly increased in size. The patient was still
in the army when the same doctor removed the keloid for the
third time. The fourth operation was a year later, but this
time the patient received laser treatment on the right
earlobe from a specialist in lasers. After the operation,
the patient's therapy included wearing pressure earnings and
receiving cortisone shots into the right earlobe. The keloid
grew back within the year with an additional increase in
size. The patient underwent a fifth and final operation. The
keloid grew back and the patient has not sought medical
treatment for the condition since 1992. |
